Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco – July 29, 2025 – The Jalisco state government, in coordination with the Puerto Vallarta City Council, is working to obtain federal conservation status for Los Arcos de Mismaloya, a key marine area on the coast.

Paola Bauche Petersen, head of the state’s Environment and Territorial Development Department (Semadet), announced plans to collaborate with the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (Conanp) to start the declaration process.

If approved, stricter regulations would be applied to protect the area’s biodiversity. The site is both ecologically rich and a major tourist attraction.

Local authorities already promote sustainable tourism practices, such as limiting loud music near nesting birds. “We’re committed to preserving this symbol of biodiversity and responsible tourism,” said Bauche Petersen.
